ARTISTIC VISION

“When sculpting the Pit Fiend, I wanted to give form to evil in its purest essence, something organized and calculating.” — Alex Oliver

The Pit Fiend carries the structure of Hell in his own frame.

— Wings raised high, enclosing him like the back of a throne;

— An upright stance, unhurried, dominating the ground around him;

— A massive body, scaled and set with spines and sharp horns;

— Scales shaped one by one across the chest, resembling hardened magma;

— A flame held above the open claws;

— A great mace with a demonic face carved into its head;

— Chains across the torso, holding an inverted pentagram with an eye at its center;

— Every tooth exposed beneath a crushing brow.

 

SIGNIFICANCE

In myth, Hell is built on rank, obedience, and judgment.

Legions move at the Pit Fiend’s command.

Everything his rule requires, he holds himself. In one hand, the iron that destroys. In the other, the fire of corruption.

Whoever comes before him has already been judged.

Where he stands, Hell falls into order.

Alex Oliver
the sculptor

With over three decades of experience in traditional and digital sculpting, Alex Oliver stands as a global reference in the field. He created 120 exclusive fine art miniatures for Fantastic Art Studios, honoring the classic icons of TTRPG—tabletop role-playing games. Oliver has worked with studios such as Blizzard Entertainment and Naughty Dog, shaping universes like World of Warcraft and Diablo II. He also sculpted lifelike dinosaurs for National Geographic and the Discovery Channel. In addition, he has taught at leading sculpture schools including Gnomon School, Massive Black, and LAAFA – Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art.

Oliver’s journey was not easy. He began without resources, mentors, or clear paths to follow. What carried him forward was a quiet obsession—an inner calling. A near-sacred commitment to treat every sculpture as worthy of existence.
