“The Hill Giant carries the world around him as part of his violence.” — Alex Oliver
Brute strength left untamed. Too big for anything but force.
— A low stance, the legs set wide, planted heavy;
— A cartwheel turned weapon, the iron-studded rim and axle head still on it;
— The pig tied across his back, the day’s kill;
— Leather and rough cloth bound where the body takes the most wear;
— A long scar down the face, the wild worn into it.
SIGNIFICANCE
In myth, the giants tied to the earth come before the settled world, older than walls and fields.
The Hill Giant builds nothing and keeps less. The pig came off the land. The wheel came off something that once rolled, before he broke it.
He carries it all on his body because he does not stay.
Wherever he passes, there is less than before.
Alex Oliver
the sculptor
With over three decades of experience in traditional and digital sculpting, Alex Oliver stands as a global reference in the field. He created 120 exclusive fine art miniatures for Fantastic Art Studios, honoring the classic icons of TTRPG—tabletop role-playing games. Oliver has worked with studios such as Blizzard Entertainment and Naughty Dog, shaping universes like World of Warcraft and Diablo II. He also sculpted lifelike dinosaurs for National Geographic and the Discovery Channel. In addition, he has taught at leading sculpture schools including Gnomon School, Massive Black, and LAAFA – Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art.
Oliver’s journey was not easy. He began without resources, mentors, or clear paths to follow. What carried him forward was a quiet obsession—an inner calling. A near-sacred commitment to treat every sculpture as worthy of existence.
